Common Reasons for License Suspensions

The below categories cover the most common reasons I have seen Tennessee drivers lose their driving privileges.

1.  Points Violation

The Tennessee Department of Safety will suspend the driver license of any driver who accumulates too many points within a given time period.  As drivers accumulate moving traffic violations, the Department will access points to the driver's license.  The amount of points will depend on the severity of the driving offense.   For example, driving at 30 MPH (5 points) over the speed limit will cause e more points to accumulate than a traffic citation for driving 5 MPH over the speeding limit (1 point).  12 points is the threshold for license suspension.
